Time Warped, E-Book (Book 1, Time Warped Series)
Two-hundred years in the future, Earth has founded USEF: the United Space Exploration Fleet. Their outreach brought humanity new allies, but also new enemies.
Seventeen-year-old prodigy Nonie Thorburn has been unexpectedly promoted to Lieutenant of the United Space Exploration Fleet and given a top-secret mission—which soon goes awry. Thrust forty years into the past to a critical junction in time, Nonie finds herself stranded on the USEF Pioneer under the famous and—in her time—long-dead Captain Kieran Wildason, whom she instantly feels drawn toward.
A young wunderkind like herself, the two seem to be made for each other, but under no circumstances can she alter the timeline and risk the future she knows—and that means Kieran and any interference are off limits. However, when Nonie learns that the truth behind her arrival in the past is far more sinister than she expected, the lines begin to blur.
Trapped between the events unfolding in front of her eyes and the history she remembers; Nonie becomes the anchor point the future hinges on. With Kieran’s life on the line, she must make a decision that could delete her future and change the timeline forever.

The narrative of Time Warped is fantastic. It is intricate without being too complex and is written to perfection. At first, I thought this would be a simple YA tale, but Micky O'Brady surprised me. Nonie is not your typical YA protagonist. She is not a cry baby and is not desperate to give her family a better life. She is not a damsel in distress who desperately needs a companion to help her out. Nonie is a smart girl (smarter than her age) and knows what she needs to do to get out of a mess. Kieran and Nonie are partners and companions. No one has the upper hand in the relationship, and I love that. The descriptions blew my mind. From the opening scene till the very last one, the author created pictures with her words, making it easier for me to enjoy the story. The action is alive, the plot is perfect, and the development is on point!
This engaging story is expertly plotted with a protagonist that readers of all ages will root for. She is intelligent, driven, and strong. When readers meet her, she comes across as someone who makes her own decisions. Even when her father never wanted it, she joined the Academy because she felt it was best for her. Her inner world is exquisitely written and readers will adore how the internal conflict plays out within her, with streams of consciousness that plunge readers into the very center of her psyche. Meeting Kieran is a twist that I never saw coming and it helps to build tension, create suspense, and augment the conflict in the narrative. The protagonist is torn between saving her future and choosing the man she deeply loves. Micky O'Brady's writing is sprinkled with engaging and natural-sounding dialogues and while these dialogues unveil character depth, they help to move the plot steadily forward. Time Warped is fast, hard, and propulsive, a hard-to-put-down story that has a huge dose of adventure and action.
I quickly fell in love with everything about this story. The universe building, they history, the characters and relationships. And the lead up to book 2.. I cannot wait to read!!
Intelligently plotted and deftly written, Time Warped is a spellbinding novel that kept me turning the pages. I adored the characters and enjoyed the author’s exploration of history and a setting that will captivate readers. Micky O’Brady’s characters are realistic, and they leap off the pages with a life of their own. Nonie is a young character that is fully drawn, sophisticated, and humanly believable. The author uses this character to build the conflict at multiple levels: psychological, emotional, historical, and situational. With the stakes this high, the protagonist must navigate a complex world, understanding that any action she takes can alter history. She is in a dilemma that establishes the conflict and enriches the plot in surprising ways. The story is as suspenseful as it is delightful.
Micky O’Brady has crafted a novel that intelligently handles time travel paradoxes and science fiction tropes, making for interesting and original reading. I enjoyed the fact that the complexities of the plot were delivered step by step, making the concepts accessible to a YA audience but respecting the logic that had to follow enough for more mature readers to still be satisfied with the resulting plot. I also enjoyed the intellect and emotional know-how afforded to Nonie and Kieran, who are young prodigies with plenty of youthful folly but are also given proper respect for their skills and the impact they will have on the future. Overall, I would highly recommend Time Warped for fans of time travel fiction of any age and teen readers looking to get into the genre with a high-quality read.
