For sixteen-year-old Noa Keegan panic attacks are part of life, but this one is different: she wakes up in a parallel universe, Terra, where she is treated as a security risk. Her guard, a nineteen-year-old Sentinel named Avery McTighe, is easily the most serious and mesmerizing person Noa has ever met.
When anti-government rebels kidnap her and Avery, the two of them realize Terra plans to wipe out Earth’s population for better access to its resources. Bound together by mutual attraction and a common goal, Noa and Avery must find a way to abort Terra’s murderous schemes, but when Avery gets injured, their chances are bleak.
Hunted across universes by Terran forces and with the clock ticking down to the annihilation of the human race, Noa has one shot at saving the universe she grew up in—or the Sentinel she’s falling in love with.

Micky O'Brady has crafted a novel that will entice fans of I Am Number Four and novels with plot points that take readers beyond our world. The masterful control of style and material is noticeable in the narrative, and strong themes are explored, including coming of age, adventure, and the fight for justice. Each chapter possesses its own elegance, perfectly written to move the reader easily along towards the next one. The characters are elaborately developed and I felt a strong connection with the female protagonist. From the start of the story, there is something unusual about her and her panic attacks got me thinking she is meant for something higher, something she’s about to discover, and then — boom — it comes, shattering everything. The tension in Between Worlds is introduced at the right moment and it builds up to a satisfying conclusion.
Micky O'Brady has done it again! Between Worlds is another winner. I loved her first two YA books -- The President's Daughter and Trial by Ice. One always wonders if an author can keep up the magic. Micky O'Brady certainly does. The hero (yes, heroine) is 16 year old Noa Keegan. Although she does have her issues -- panic attacks -- she's smart and strong and resourceful. She's a terrific role model for young women. Although this is clearly in the science fiction genre, like her other books, there's plenty of romance as well. At the risk of sounding like a giant cliché, this book is rollicking fun! And O'Brady has an excellent ear for the way teens talk. I think anyone from teen to adult will have a hard time putting this book down (or pulling out their earphone). Great action, great romance, thrilling excitement -- who would want more?
This is an incredibly well-paced story packed full of action, adventure, and romance. Reading Between Worlds was a sensory experience; the author used just the right words to make it a whole new experience for me. The descriptions were vivid, the imagery was rich and the characters were really well-developed. Noa and Avery had a very special relationship; they understood the gravity of the situation and understood each other. The Terra universe is very believable. Micky O’Brady ensured that once you start reading about this place, you can imagine yourself there easily. The tension is palpable, the characters are given ample opportunities to show their potential and ensure that the reader is there with them until the very end. This is an incredible story, one that I would love to see made into a motion picture. Really interesting and entertaining from every aspect.
One of the most immediate and effective elements of this excellent book is the presentation of Noa, the central protagonist. Taking a condition like panic attacks, which can be so crippling and incapacitating, and using it to show such strength and that anyone can become heroic, no matter what they have to deal with, is a truly inspiring central theme. Noa and Avery are charmingly written with relatable dialogue and a genuine emotional sensitivity to their growing closeness, which weaves through the well-designed plot without ever taking it over too much. The plot itself is very well planned for the chain of events, with many a twist and cliffhanger moment that is sure to keep the young adult target audience on their toes. Overall, Between Worlds by author Micky O’Brady is an accomplished and exciting paranormal work that offers plenty for its readership in terms of style, atmosphere, and character development.
“This must be a dream. An aftershock of my panic attack. A sedative-induced state of mind.” Between Worlds is a beautiful and thrilling novel to ignite a great passion for reading for Young Adults interested in science fiction and love. Almost 17 yr old Noa stepped into a breach between universes and ended up in Terra. Her adventures with a technologically advanced government, a Star Trek-y type of world, and an innocent yet forbidden relationship with a soldier will leave your skin sizzling. Micky O’Brady is one of my favorite authors. Her novels are fast-paced and filled with lots of action that will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat. Like The President’s Daughter, I couldn’t put the book down and was left wanting more to read!
